About the Job:

The Longhole Mine Supervisor will report to the Mine Superintendent and is responsible for direct supervision of longhole stoping, production and workforce planning, and reporting of progress, and reporting of footage progress. The schedule for this position is 14 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 14 days off.

Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with the underground Supervisors and Mine Superintendents in coordinating production longhole mining resources, inclusive of workforce, equipment assignments and technical services support.
  • Tracks daily drill footages, ensures productivity and quality of drilling.
  • Assesses drill condition and works with Maintenance to coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Inspects and maps completed drill holes and develops stope blasting plans.
  • Identifies and implements “best practices” for longhole stoping at Coeur Alaska Kensington.
  • Encourages and fosters a team environment by coaching employees on safe operations.
  • Complies with and coaches the highest environmental standards.
  • Ensures proper utilization of longhole drills to optimize safe and efficient production.
  • Ensures that performance expectations and proficiency standards are met consistently.
  • Assists Supervisors in assessment of employee performance and job assignments.
  • Works collaboratively with all Supervisors and crews to ensure that equipment and tasks are properly set-up for the next shift.
  • Maintains production drilling log books and production tracking sheets.
  • Communicates effectively with peers, employees and other departments.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal mining regulations, as well as Federal and State environmental standards.
  • Provides consistency in the application of Company policies, procedures, and training to ensure the safest work environment for employees.
  • Supports expansion of Automine (automated mining equipment) at Coeur Alaska Kensington.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Ability to work safe and promote safe behavior in others.
  • Degree in Mine Engineering with 5 years of underground experience, inclusive of longhole design is highly desirable, or
  • High School diploma with 10 years of directly related longhole drill/blast experience, or greater than 10 years progressing through various levels of underground mining, inclusive of 5 years of directly related longhole drill/blast experience required.
  • Solid background in longhole drilling and blasting practices.
  • Well-developed decision making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Basic computer skill and ability to work with Microsoft Office programs required.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated success working safely, independently, assuming responsibility, and communicating effectively and professionally.
  • Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability.
  • Preference given to Alaska residents.
