SUMMARY: Coordinate pre-press production between separators, third party suppliers, customers, and American Packaging. This includes reviewing artwork, recommending revisions to improve reproduction, instructing separators on specifications and requirements, coordinating final proof approval and assisting in establishing color standards.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Graphics Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the STOP Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation’s efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
  • Individual must be very self-motivated & take proactive steps towards solving identified problems. Must also be very willing to take on new projects as they develop.
  • Review incoming artwork for adherence to printing and converting specifications. Make recommendations to improve reproduction. Document and/or resolve specification deviations.
  • Review proofs against original artwork to ensure printing and converting specifications are maintained. Ensure instructions to separator were followed. Document and/or resolve discrepancies. Coordinate revisions if required.
  • Coordinate proof approval process with customers through written and verbal communication.
  • Ensure appropriate proofing and manufacturing materials are in house prior to press run.
  • Represent American Packaging at pre-production meetings with customers and suppliers to review printing capabilities, procedures and systems.
  • Assemble, distribute, and maintain customer approved color standards.
  • Distribute samples to internal and external customers as required.
  • Coordinate and overview customer press approvals.
  • Provide interface with American Packaging Corporation Customer Service Department to ensure:
  • Compliance of customer’s graphics with APC capabilities
  • Satisfaction of customer’s scheduling requirements
  • Assist customers in the development of new packaging graphics for successful APC reproduction.
  • Execute effective internal (Manufacturing, Customer Service, Production Control, Technical) and external (customers) communication.
  • Stay abreast of new pre-press graphics technology.
  • Coordinate initial press runs (within APC or at outside contractor) ensuring the customer’s and APC’s requirements are met, assisting the customer in color adjustments and gaining final customer approval.
  • Complete all print orders detailing colors, sizes, style, stock (paper) for internal or external print suppliers.
  • Attend and participate in all daily order acceptance meetings.
  • Review and evaluate all production orders to ensure accuracy of information
  • Provide all necessary graphics information on a price quotation form such as print supplier, ink coverages and print method to be submitted to the Pricing Department for a quote.
  • Possess the ability to generate accurate estimates for pricing scenarios
  • Process invoices for their projects after project completion & route them to accounting for payment
  • Conduct & analyze the success of internal trials
  • Understand & be capable of initiating press characterization trials with our key suppliers & then interpreting the results
  • Adhere to all company safety guidelines
  • Attend and participate in all company mandated meetings.
  • Any other duties assigned by Graphics Manager.
  • Limited business travel may be required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum two years training towards a Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, three years related work experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
