Part-time Adult ESOL Teacher

For over 50 years, Literacy V olunteers of Greater Worcester has provided free English language education to adults throughout Central Massachusetts. We offer three levels of classes (Survival, Beginner, Intermediate) over three 10-week semesters per year. LVGW provides a supportive environment where students can develop their understanding of both the English language and American culture.

This part-time adult ESOL teacher is a professional teaching position. You will teach ESOL day and/or evening classes, remotely or in-person depending on program needs. You will be responsible for developing lesson plans using differentiated techniques and strategies to address all aspects of communication in alignment with the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards (MA ELPS). All of our courses use Pearson’s Future adult ESOL textbook series. You will use classroom technology to enhance the learning environment and administer informal language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress.

• Adhere to all LVGW policies and guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's in TESOL, English, Education, or Applied Linguistics or a Master's degree in a related field with specific coursework or training in TESOL/TESL/TEFL methodology and theory. We will also consider applicants with both a BA and TESOL/TESL/TEFL certificate. Previous teaching experience, preferably in an ESL or EFL context. Bilingual applicants are highly encouraged to apply.

REPORTS TO: Program Manager, Executive Director

BENEFITS:

• Rate of Pay: $25-30/hr, commensurate with experience.
• Expected Schedule: Scheduled as needed. Classes are scheduled for 2 hours which includes 1.5 hours of class time and 30 minutes prep and/or follow-up time. Most classes meet twice/week.
